What does it mean to come boldly before God's throne?
Here is God's message to hearers and learners in the church: When you become a Christian you haven't arrived, you've just begun! You need to put up, and keep up, a solid battle front against Satan's threats to your spiritual life, for the rest of your time on this earth. There is great safety, and great reward, in being rooted and built up in Christ, and established in the faith.
The Apostle Paul tells us that the faithful preaching of sound doctrine is an essential part of the church's defense against Satan's attacks. But this brings us face to face with a problem: Today there is a famine of that kind of preaching and teaching in the Evangelical church. What needs to change? That's our focus today as we continue our series of messages titled "Truth Above All" from Colossians chapter two.
Scripture makes it clear that God isn't concerned with numbers in the way that postmodern church-growth gurus are. God does great and eternal works through faithful remnants -- preachers and people who understand that they, not the church building, are God's temple.
The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ is the Head of the church. What does that mean? What is the purpose of His headship? How far does Christ's headship extend? How does it function? What does Christ's headship mean for believers? Stay tuned for the answers, as we look to the Word of God in Colossians chapter two.
Today many Christians talk of "reclaiming America for Christ" - "reclaiming the culture for Christ" - or "reclaiming government for Christ". If only we could "reclaim" these things, they say, the world would be so much better. The church would have so much greater influence.
Is this true of you, dear friend? We hope it is not, because such thinking is contrary to God's Word. A Reconstructionist mentality about the role of Christians in this present world reveals a tragic misunderstanding of what God's Word tells us in several key areas. What are those areas? What does God's Word say? Stay tuned to find out.

Paul exhorts us to "seek those things which are above, here Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God." As He prepared Isaiah for his great prophetic ministry, God took him into the very throne room of heaven. He showed Isaiah His infinite holiness, Isaiah's total depravity, and the only remedy. Do you as a Christian "set your mind on things above" so that these facts are continually before you?
Long ago, some unknown evangelist first asked the question, "If being a Christian were a crime, would there be enough evidence to convict you?" The point is made even more directly in First John 3:10: Is there enough evidence of your agape love for the brethren, to demonstrate that you are a child of God and not a child of the devil?
In Colossians 2:1-3, Paul cites agape love as one of the pillars of Christian unity. The hearts of believers, he says, are to be knitted together in agape love. What is the nature of this love? What are its key characteristics? How are we to demonstrate it within the body of Christ? How can we tell the real from the counterfeit?
This week we present part one of a message focusing on these questions as we continue our series, Truth Above All: Studies in Colossians 2.

Would you be willing to make the self-sacrifice of putting your reputation on the line, in order to demonstrate genuine love for your brothers and sisters within the body of Christ?
This is not a hypothetical question. It's actually something that God may be calling you to do right now. Find out more as we continue to study what God's Word says is involved in truly loving your fellow Christians -- and what is at stake if you don't.

What is the foundation of genuine Christian unity? Does it mean joining hands with others who, in fact, aren't even Christians? Some popular preachers who have a large following among conservative Evangelical pastors and churchgoers, have fallen into this ecumenical trap.
What is the role of love in true unity -- the agape love we find in Colossians 2:2? It's not what many Christians think -- and that's our focus this week as we continue our series, Christ Above All: Studies in Colossians.
