Does Jesus Christ have "the preeminence" -- first place in your thoughts and actions -- this Christmas?
The Biblical doctrine of separation is not something that is irrelevant or outdated in our time. It is just as important - perhaps more so - than at any other time in the history of the people of God. But what exactly is separation? How does the Bible define it? What is the key to it?
In recent messages we've been studying Paul's warning against the tyranny of man-made doctrines based on counterfeit authority, in Colossians chapter two. As we look at church history we find that one Bible passage has been misused more than any other, in men's attempts to establish counterfeit authority within the church. That passage is Matthew 16:19, where Jesus says, "And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." Exactly what are those keys? Who has the authority to use them, and how? Stay tuned for the answers, as we continue our study of this vital subject.
Believers in Jesus Christ are to be unified in knowledge. What is that knowledge? How do you get it? How are individual Christians, and the church as a body, to use it?
Many people think that Biblically separated living is an un-loving thing. But what does Scripture say?
Colossians 2:9 tells us that in Jesus Christ "dwells all the fullness of the Godhead in a body." This vitally important but often-neglected doctrine stands in total opposition to contemporary philosophy, legalistic teachings, and man-made doctrines about Jesus Christ. With the Apostle Paul we must bow the knee, and say that "great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh..." (1 Timothy 3:16). This is the basis of our stand against Satan's triple threat to the church.
Is Biblical separation optional for the Christian and the church?
Unless the Author is dwelling in you, it is impossible for you to properly understand and interpret the Scriptures.
The Bible is unique among all books. The words of the Bible are the very words of God.
What is the typical pattern when a church goes into compromise with the world? How does the Bible tell us to recognize what is happening?
