Jesus Christ is the most stupendous fact in all of history. His first advent is the central point of history. All of history before Him points forward to Him. All that has followed His first advent points back to Him. His person is that which differentiates Christianity from all other religions. In other religions, it is the teaching that is central. Someone other than Buddha or Confucius might have taught those false religious philosophies just a well. But in Christianity, the teaching is not at the center. The person of Christ Himself is the indispensable center.
Colossians 2:7 tells us that one of the best safeguards against doctrinal deviancy in the church involves something we may not think of in this connection: Thanksgiving for Christ and His Word.
