Part one of a series

As we strive to "live godly in Christ Jesus" in the midst of a world gone mad, Christians can find solid comfort and great encouragement in the infinite knowledge of God.

Editor's note: The one thing that is certain about life in this present evil world is uncertainty. But Jesus told us to expect no less until the end of time:

Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, "I am the Christ," and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.

Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name's sake. And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold.

But he who endures to the end shall be saved. And this Gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:4-14)

While living in a world gone increasingly mad, the Christian can take great comfort in the infinite knowledge of God. Nothing takes Him by surprise; all things are part of His all-wise and glorious plan. In this series, Arthur W. Pink points believers to this wondrous truth. As he did in all his writings, Pink proclaims, in the boldest terms, the vital fact that sound theology is the sure foundation of right thinking and right living.

God is omniscient. He knows everything: everything possible, everything actual; all events and all creatures, of the past, the present, and the future. He is perfectly acquainted with every detail in the life of every being in Heaven, in Earth, and in Hell. "He knoweth what is in the darkness" (Daniel 2:22). Nothing escapes His notice, nothing can be hidden from Him, nothing is forgotten by Him.

Well may we say with the psalmist, "Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain it" (Psalm 139:6). His knowledge is perfect. He never errs, never changes, never overlooks anything. "Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in His sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of Him with whom we have to do" (Hebrews 4:13). Yes, such is the God "with whom we have to do"!

You know my sitting down and my rising up; You understand my thought afar off. You comprehend my path and my lying down, and are acquainted with all my ways. For there is not a word on my tongue, but behold, O Lord, You know it altogether (Psalm 139:2-4).

What a wondrous Being is the God of Scripture! Each of His glorious attributes should render Him honorable in our esteem. The apprehension of His omniscience ought to bow us in adoration before Him. Yet how little do we meditate upon this divine perfection! Is it because the very thought of it fills us with uneasiness?
